The Machine are a three piece stoner, psychedelic rock band from Rotterdam, Netherlands, forming in September 2007. Their music characterizes itself as powerful with a lot of dynamics: ranging from hard-hitting rock to spaced out jams with a more experimental approach. Their very own sound is a compromise between organic and groovy drumming, inventive low end pounding and a punishing wall of guitar with some old school lead work.

Since forming in 2007 have performed at several marquee festivals in Europe, among them are the fantastic Roadburn Festival (2010 & 2011), Burg Herzberg Festival (2011), DunaJam Festival (2012) to name a few. To date The Machine have released six studio albums (Three of which with German label Elektrohasch Schallplatten).

History[]

The Machine would form in 2007 with the founding lineup of bassist Hans Van Heemst, drummer Davy Boogaard and guitarist/vocalist David Eering. Sometime after forming the trio would release their debut album Shadow of The Machine the same year. The band would largely perform in The Netherlands and occasionally other countries such as Belgium and Germany. Signing to Nasoni Records, The Machine would release Solar Corona on 3 May 2009 to positive reviews.

In 2010 would perform several marquee gigs, namely appearances at Roadburn Festival, Stoned From The Underground and Psychedelic Network Festival.[1] Signing to German label Elektrohasch Schallplatten, The Machine would release their third album Drie in 2011, participating as support in the Up In Smoke tours (Vol. 1 with Sungrazer, Rotor and Colour Haze and Vol. 3 with My Sleeping Karma, Lonely Kamel and Samsara Blues Experiment along with returning to Roadburn.[2] The band would record their next album circa September 2011 at Studio De Zolder.

Calmer Than You Are would see release the next year, with supporting gigs alongside White Hills and appearances at DesertFest Berlin and Duna Jam.[3] In 2013 The Machine would release a split album with Sungrazer and tour together as part of the Strikes & Gutters Tour, along with appearances at Freak Valley Festival, SonicBlast Moledo, Yellowstock and Big Muff Festival.[4]

The Machine would make appearances at DesertFest Berlin and Desertfest London as work would begin on a fifth album, leading up to the release of Offblast! in 2015. The Machine would perform marquee gigs throughout Europe over the next few years in support of Offblast!. Eventually the band would make their own label in Awe Records and released Faceshift in 2018, evolving into more of a sound loosely influenced by grunge and noise rock. The band has announced in 2020 that a seventh album is in the works.
