Space Witch are a psychedelic sludge band drawing influences from 70's prog and psychedelia and infusing it with doom stoner rock and post-rock. They were formed in Stoke on Trent, England in 2007.

HistoryEdit

Space Witch were formed in 2007 in Stoke on Trent, UK by guitarist Daz Rowlands, who is the sole mainstay in the band. Space Witch has seen many line-up changes since their formation, but as of 2014 has consisted of Rowlands (guitar), Lee Bullock (guitar) Peter Callaghan (synths and electronics), Daniel Mansfield (drums) and Tomas Cairn (bass).

The bands first release was a self-titled demo which they released on July 1st 2008[1]. They followed up on 7th January 2011 with Resurrection, a seven track demo which included three live recordings.[2] On April 30th 2013, they released their first EP, The Alchemy Paradox.[3]

In 2014, the band saw two releases. Their first was a split with fellow English doom band Trollkraftt, titled Wytchkraftt, released on May 3rd of that year.[4]. Their second release was the bands first studio album, Space Witch. [5] The self-titled album was released July 3rd on vinyl, CD and tape via a three-way release through Orchestrated Dystopia Records, Hevisike and Fear Me! Music.[5] The album was critically very well received, and the band has toured extensively since its release, including playing as main support on the Manchester leg of Conan's 2015 UK tour. In July 2015, Space Witch appeared on the CVLTNation sessions, in which they covered 'From Beyond' from Sleep's album Sleep's Holy Mountain.[6]

ReviewsEdit

Space Witch are one of the rare breeds that have a good handle on the best way to make the sections in their songs ebb and flow, knowing when to change up a riff and when to just hammer it home.

— Tom McKibbin, The Sleeping Shaman[7]

Space Witch has always had a sinister edge to their music but it really comes to play when they decide to throw caution to the wind and play epic jam based riffs. The instrumental work is jaw dropping at times as Space Witch keeps you on the edge of your seat.

— The Sludgelord[8]
