Radar Men From The Moon are a psychedelic/experimental collective based out of Eindhoven. Forming initially as a trio, this project would be notable for an ever changing sound along an ever-shifting line-up of people, but the group’s core members have included: Glenn Peeters, Tony Lathouwers, Titus Verkuijlen and Bram van Zuijlen. RMFTM’s music has constantly evolved and changed from Dissonant PsychRock and Post-Punk to Industrial/Drone Techno. Something they term as "Acid Metal" and "Ethereal Razorblade Music". From 2019 onward the band would evolve into a sextet, adding a second drummer along with a saxophonist/vocalist.[1]

Since forming in 2010, Radar Men From The Moon have released six studio albums amid a host of extended plays and collaborations with the likes of Gnod and 10000 Russos. Along with their prolific and unpredictable releases the band would also tour frequently through Europe. The band's name derives from a television show from the 1950s.

History[]

Radar Men from the Moon

RMFTM in their early years.

Radar Men From The Moon would be founded in 2010 as an instrumental trio, with the founding lineup of Glenn Peeters, Jan-Titus Verkuijlen and Tony Lathouwers. Sometime after forming the trio would release their debut EP Intergalactic Dada & Space Trombones on 15 July 2011, with a release party at The Rambler on the same day. The band would perform in the Netherlands and Belgium, sharing the stage with the likes of Colour Haze, Vic du Monte, TANK86 and White Hills among others.[2]

Signing to the London-based psych label, RMFTM would release their debut album Echo Forever on 16 July 2012 to positive reviews.[3] The band would tour more extensively to support Echo Forever through 2013, appearing at several festivals including Roadburn Festival, Freak Valley Festival, Duna Jam, Pietrasonica and Yellowstock among others.[4] A second studio album in Strange Wave Galore would see release on 30 January 2014, followed by further European touring and appearances the likes of DesertFest Berlin and Eindhoven Psych Lab.[5]

Radar Men From The Moon would become a quartet in 2015 with the addition of Bram van Zuijlen on keyboards and synthesizer. The band's first album would be part of a trilogy as Subversive I would see release on 26 September 2015, with the band performing at Liverpool International Festival of Psychedelia on the day of it's release.[6] The next two parts of this trilogy would see release over the next two years (Subversive II: Splendor of The Wicked on 11 June 2016 and Subversive III: De Spelende Mens on 1 December 2017).

Notably the band would release two collaborative albums around the same time. First would be Temple Ov BBV, written and recorded in four days with the Salford, England experimental band Gnod and released in 2017. The other would be a collaborative LP with the Portugese psychedelic band 10000 Russos, released in 2018.

Radar Men From The Moon would work with Belgian engineer Peter Mulders for the Bliss EP, released 14 June 2019 and experimenting with a more industrial/noise sound. In early 2020 the band would announce they were now a sextet, adding Joep Schmitz as a second drummer and Harm Neidig on saxophone and vocals. Along with this lineup change the band celebrated their tenth anniversary, releasing The Bestial Light on 8 May 2020.
