End of Level Boss were a doom metal quartet based out of London, England. Forming in 2003 by Hangnail guitarist Harry Armstrong, this doom band would often incorporate off-kilter and unorthodox rhythms, being cited by some critics as "Kyuss Meets King Crimson". In their main run between 2003 and 2012, End of Level Boss would release three albums (All of which via Exile on Mainstream Records) and tour the UK and Europe.
History[]
End of Level Boss was founded by Harry Armstrong in 2003 with Elena Jane, Gareth Millsted and Jim Ogawa. Following frequent UK gigs and releasing two demos the quartet would sign with Exile on Mainstream Records and release their debut album Prologue on 25 July 2005, which followed with touring throughout the United Kingdom and Europe the year and the next. This would include appearances at Stoned From The Underground (2005), South of Mainstream (2006), Roadburn Festival (2006) and Sauzipf Rocks among touring with Place of Skulls. The band would also recruit a new guitarist in Roland Scriver (Sloth) in 2006.
End of Level Boss would see release of a second album in Inside the Difference Engine, which followed with extensive touring that year alongside the likes of The Hidden Hand, Stinking Lizaveta, Volt and Place of Skulls. The next year, alongside being part of the Exile on Mainstream Road Show, would appear at the 2008 edition of Stoner Hands of Doom. Eventually the band would return to Earth Terminal Studios to record a follow-up, bringing in a new rhythm section in Peter Theobalds (Gonga, Akercocke) and Neil Grant (RAAR) and recording live to tape in four days.
The end result would be Eklectric, released on 20 May 2011 to positive reviews. The band would perform marquee gigs in the UK to support the album along with making an appearance at Roadburn the next year. However following a canceled gig in late 2012 the band quietly went dormant, with their Facebook page promoting the respective members' other bands such as The Earls of Mars and Noisepicker.
A reunion was proposed for the 2015 edition of Desertfest London but the band would be forced to cancel mere days before the festival due to a family emergency.
