Electroretard is the thirteenth album by Melvins and the only full-length to be released via Man's Ruin Records in 2001, mere months before the label folded. Considered to be one of their more experimental efforts the album is largely comprised of covers and re-recorded songs. The main portion of the album was recorded at Louder Studios in 2000 and mixed at Speed Semen Clove Factory while three of the tracks were recorded and mixed by Joe Barresi at A&M Studios. Mark Deutrom played bass on "Tipping The Lion" and "Interstellar Overdrive" but is not credited on the original version. The original CD also gives special thanks to "Kozik" and "A.Hilter".

A vinyl version of the album was originally proposed in 2001 (With some test pressings known to exist.) but Man's Ruin folded before the album could be pressed and released.[1] This has led to the album being bootlegged on vinyl over the years. A CD re-issue was made for letter-press CDs for the Melvins' tours in 2012 and 2013, along with the 13 CD boxset. Electroretard was also packaged as a bonus album with The Bulls & The Bees on 2 June 2015 via Ipecac, crediting Deutrom and shortening "Shit Storm" to one minute. This compilation was supposed to see a vinyl 2LP package but for reasons unknown never came to fruition.

On 5 May 2020 it would be announced that Amphetamine Reptile Records would re-issue the album. Along with a "cheapy $5 CD" the album would see it's first official vinyl issue, nearly twenty years after it's original release. In May 2023 The Bulls & The Bees & Electroretard would see it's first proper vinyl issue.
